Overview

Health certification for pets who need to emigrate with their owners, has become an increasingly complex process, requiring microchipping, vaccinations, blood tests, tick and worm treatments, as well as clinical health examinations at prescribed times before travel. Every country as different requirements for pet importation, and these requirements are constantly changing. Pet owners are well advised to start researching the requirements well in advance (most countries now require rabies titre tests, which have to be done at least 3-4 months before departure), by contacting the relevant country’s embassy or government agriculture department, or alternatively getting advice and quotations from a reputable pet travel agency.

These pet travel agencies will provide quotations to manage either the full range of travel arrangements, or alternatively offer to do certain parts of the requirements, while leaving the rest for the pet owner and vet to complete.
